Different varieties of Pothos are favorite houseplants which grow rather fast and need little maintenance. So, even if you have just started keeping plants at home, you can comfortably take care of these lovely plants.

Pothos army is considered the most beautiful species: the tropical climbing vine has beautiful heart-shaped leaves in shades of green, cream and white, making it a nice candidate for enhancing your domestic atmosphere.

Its name comes from the fact that the combination of green and white in leaves more or less resemble military uniforms.

This easy-to-grow plant features air purification and conversion of carbon dioxide into oxygen, removing harmful toxins from the air as well as organic compounds such as benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, xylene and toluene.

As Pothos army does not suffer from pests, there is no need to change the pot to maintain it. You might need to change the pot only if its roots come out and get damaged.

Pothos army can be kept indoors in various settings such as apartments, offices, entertainment centers, and more.

Origin

The Pothos army plant is native to the Solomon Islands and belongs to the Araceae family.

Light requirements:

This plant prefers low light conditions. Indirect light with partial shade is enough for growth. You can even use fluorescent light for the plant.

Direct sunlight will cause the leaves to wrinkle and eventually dry. Try to place the pot next to southern windows or filtered sunlight.

Watering

Pothos Army does not need much water. Generally, every 4 days in summer and once every 10 days to two weeks in winter. Note that it does not like too much water or alkaline soil; this will cause the leaves to turn brown and black or yellow spots appear on the leaves. If the roots of the plant are kept moist, growth will slow down or even stop. The soil should be completely dry between two waterings.

Overwatering threatens the plant; its leaves fall and turn yellow. This problem is more evident in winter when the plant does not need much watering.

Proper Soil

Interestingly, the plant does not need very nutritious and heavy soil. Light garden soil allows the plant to grow easily. Just make sure that the soil is well-drained; water should pass through the soil easily.

Generally, Pothos Army does not need fertilizer. However, you can use a fertilizer for lush growth. A combination of cocopeat and perlite soil and a little bit of peat moss or prepared soil for indoor plants will help the leaves grow wider.

Humidity and temperature

Balanced humidity is enough for the plant and you don't need to use tools such as humidifiers at home.

If your plant is showing signs of dry leaves or a lack of energy, which has caused the leaves to become pale, here are a few steps you can take to help revive it. One option is to temporarily move the pot into the bathroom, where the plant can benefit from increased humidity. This will provide much-needed moisture to the plant. If the plant is subjected to arid conditions, it will experience adverse effects. To remedy this, introduce humidity into the plant's surroundings.

The optimal temperature range for the plant is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Maintaining a consistent temperature within this range will support its flourishing development. Keep it away from the cold and frost.

Growing Pothos army in water

This plant also grows in water. However, it will grow better in the soil. If you wish to create a beautiful effect, you can separate a large branch of the plant and put it in the water.

Note:

This plant is poisonous. The toxicity of Pothos is due to the existence of calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the lips, mouth and tongue.

Keep Pothos out of the reach of children and pets.
